Straddling the divide between development, QA, and operations, the members of the Fast Response/Production Support Team will be engineers responsible for being the first line of engineering response in ensuring our business is humming along smoothly. As a member of this team, you will have two primary responsibilities:

1. Dealing with problems that arise with our applications in production. If operations can't resolve the issue, if the problem is coming from misbehavior or poor behavior of the application, then you will be on the hook. You will need an excellent understanding of how various internal and external systems interact in order to identify and diagnose problems, propose changes to the systems to prevent occurrences in the future, and determine how to remediate any data discrepancies that have arisen as a result.

2. Dealing with needs arise in short order for our advertising business. We're in the business of creating intelligent, interesting, engaging ads. We need to stay at the forefront by continuing to innovate on this front. You will, therefore, also be responsible for implementing mashups, web services, and any other instrumentation needed to quickly prototype and roll out new ad types. You will own the servers and environments necessary for doing so, and will be responsible for maintaining and managing the applications on these environments.

In case this doesn't fill up your time bucket, you will also be working on helping us improve our product suite overall by addressing issues waiting for attention in our pool of open issues. This will increase your understanding of our applications, and assist your overall knowledge of our business.

The most important skill for this job is a keen problem-solving mind. You must be comfortable with directing yourself, and providing constant feedback to management regarding progress on your various tasks.

Key technical skills include basic nix system administration, SQL, application monitoring, and programming in some relatively modern scripting language. This isn't primarily a development position, but you should be able to read the code to see what it's doing, and write well enough to build your own tools. You must be comfortable with exploring new technologies and languages. Can you pull out a packet sniffer to see what the client is sending, search through the server logs to find the error, then dig through the code to find out why it's not working? That's who we want.

The ideal candidate will be able to work closely with both technical and client-facing groups, triage and prioritize effectively, and function well under pressure. Communication and diplomacy are essential skills.
